What Causes Fluid Build Up In The Lungs?

default
Posted on Fri, 21 Apr 2017
Question: I have regular fluid build up in my lungs, and when I lay down to sleep at night I feel like I am drowning, so I sit up to sleep. I have had a chest xray and it is clear, I have been recently treated with tamiflu and zpak for a uri.
I have had my heart checked for fluid :negative, I have had blood work in XXXXXXX and Feb but nothing showed up but they were looking more for infection. I cant seem to get the clear fluid from building up in my lungs so I can breath easily. I have used inhalers and flonase. But its been going on for about 2 or 3 months now and I want to know if you think I have a kidney problem with elimination of fluids from the blood or a lilver problem from past heavy drinking. I am 63 and am in Afib for 23 years . On diovan and diltiazem. What is the next step or test for me so I can sleep and breath at night.

Brief Answer:
We should definitely see for liver and kidney diseases.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, you are mostly having orthopnea.
And most common cause for this is cardiac. Since your 2d echo is normal, no need to worry for heart diseases.
Liver and kidney diseases can also cause fluid build up. So we should definitely rule out kidney and liver diseases first. So get done SGPT, Bilirubin, ultrasound examination of liver, serum protein level etc to rule out liver diseases.
Get done creatinine, urea, Urine examination and ultrasound examination of kidneys to rule out kidney diseases.
You may take diuretics for Symptomatic relief.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
