default
Posted on Tue, 18 Aug 2015
Question: I am 67 female with teeth now declared aged and about 6 removed (in back) because of breaking with chewing....I have just been told about 7 more of my front teeth are losing fillings as well as 3 in back..so it is becoming clear that I need to investigate anything but root canal and tooth implants (toxity issues)
Can you recommend a safer alternative...thank you. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Fixed partial denture, implants RCT, Crowns

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
As far as the breaking teeth is concerned, it can be because of the bruxism (grinding teeth during night time). So nothing to be panic, consult a prosthodontist and get it evaluated. You need to get a radiograph done like OPG to evaluate the amount of bone remaining around the teeth to decide what type of treatment we can plan for.
The safe option for you is the bridge or fixed partial (FPD)denture, but for this there should be a tooth on either side of the missing teeth to take support and replace missing teeth. If there is no tooth on one side either front or back side of the missing tooth then we cannot give FPD. In such situations you can go for implant supported prosthesis.
Regarding the other remaining teeth, if they are completely attrited and pulpally involved, then these teeth has to be restored with root canal treatment and crowns.
These are my treatment plan based on the description of your problem. If you can upload the images of the teeth and radiograph I can give you exact treatment plan.
I hope I have answered your query. If any queries are there reply me back. Take care.
