What Causes Frustration And Depression After Leaving Job?

I am a teacher by profession and I love my job. It gives me immense pleasure to be in schoolaround kids as I know I am very good at it. I was working in a very good school since 3 yrs and I resigned from there since two months. I feel sad after leaving the school. All the time I just want to talk about the school and the kids out there. I left my job as I a 32 yrs, obese and was planning a baby through IUI or IVF which requires weight loss and may be bed rest too. But after leaving the school my health is got wors more than before. I feel Iin such a stress I won'tbe able to conceive so I should join school again. But im also scared if i conceive in the middle of the academic year. I keep nagging at home and shouting at my husband due to frustration of not working and gaining weight. Kindly suggest me what should I do?
You can rejoin school or find some other activity, counseling needed
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing to us.
Many persons like you feel frustration and depression after leaving job. As you mentioned you love your job and was quite happy with that.3 years is also not short duration. Baby planning does not necessitate complete bed rest.
Nagging, shouting ,not feeling well , gaining weight all are symptoms of excessive stress. Whether it is depression or not confirmed only after evaluation by a psychiatrist. For that detail history of symptoms and mental status examination are required.
In my opinion restarting school will help in following manners.
- You will be occupied with work. This will not allow to give you time for frustration.
- Continuing work may help to reduce weight. Even with work it is easy to reduce weight rather than sedentary lifestyle.
- You will be happy in that environment which can increase the chances of pregnancy.
- By chance if you become pregnant you can take rest according to gynecologist's advise but there is no need to stop work completely. Even in happy environment your baby will be more healthy as fetus' health depends on mother's health.
In any case restarting school is not the feasible option, you can start some other activities. Like learning guitar or some other music instrument, painting, or you can start tuition at home. You can think more about this aspect depending upon your hobbies.
You need detail counseling by psychologist/psychiatrist in liaison with your treating gynecologist as per my opinion.
Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Dr.Chintan Solanki.
