What Causes Gas And Nausea While On Brat Diet?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Feb 2015
Question: Since Thursday I have been having gas and nausea - I have been using the brat diet - I started yesterday I ate bananas, applesauce, rice and peppermint tea. I was feeling fine the rest of the day and night but then I had some caffeine-free pepsi and cheddar popcorn and when I went to bed I had stomach pains. I am suffering from anxiety and don't know if it is from that or not. I was wondering if I should use Activa yogurt for my digestive problem with the Brat diet and do you think the soda and popcorn caused the problem at night? On Thurs. night I had Penne Alla Vodka and the next day I started feeling this way. Right now I have a little gas and feel a little nauseus. I haven't been moving my bowels too well also. I went a little bit yesterday but basically I have been constipated. i used GasX yesterday and Pepto Bismol the day before.
Please give me some advice on what to. I have been depressed and had anxiety a few times before and have had stomach issues. Also yesterday I had some plain chicken with duck sauce and brown rice.

Brief Answer:
Appears to be gastritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Pepsi and popcorn could have caused gastritis, which could be the cause of pain.
2. Activa Yoghurt is good, it also has probiotics, it will reduce gas formation.
3. Vodka also irritates the stomach, need to avoid. Specifically with an empty stomach.
4. You can take proton pump inhibitors like pantoprazole or esmoprazole. It will reduce acidity. It would take a day or two to improve, until then use antacids. Have good hydration.
5. Look into nutrition, specifically at this age. Diet is important. Avoid crash diets. Try to do it in moderation along with water aerobics, swimming, etc.
6. Anxiety will also on increase acidity. Along with avoiding stomach irritants, need to learn relaxation.
7. Drink cleaner water.

Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
