Question : Hi Doctor,
My eGFR is gradually decreasing, as can be seen from below YBY data:
2017 2016 2015
82 85 91

Could this be a sign of a kidney Failure like CKD.
I am really worried about this particular Alert in my Annual Health Check up report.
Please help.

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
it may nor may not predict kidney disease.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

changes in e GFR may be related to kidney disease

If you are a diabetic, or hypertensive ( High BP) then you should be vigilant. You should rule out kidney disease by doing urine routine, spot urine P/C ratio and ultrasound abdomen.

But eGFR is a calculated value and it may depend on lot of other factors like change in body weight , muscle mass, intake of water and protein rich diet. so to assume that as your eGFR is slightly decreased, you have renal disease , may not be true.

i would suggest to meet a doctor for detailed checkup to rule out any other features of kidney disease and conform with other tests as listed.

best wishes
