What Causes Gum Numbness After Minor Tooth Fracture?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Nov 2015
Question: Front tooth is broken, but not as much as the other. The one that is more intact is causing numbness in the gums above, i told my dentists a couple months ago about this, they examined me but said i needed a "specialist" an would call me as soon as they had set up an appointment. Its been four months now, no call back, i have a dental care plan that doesn't seem to work. What should I do?

I live in La Pine an those who examined me were in Bend.

1. One of the two fronts is mostly gone (my right one) but that one doesn't hurt at all. The other (my left one) has been hurting off & on over the months, seems almost random. But now its turning constant and feels numb.
2. All of my teeth show that, but the one that hurts is barely yellowish. It's neighbors, the 90% gone one is yellow is some bits, and the other (left of the left front tooth) is getting dark, but isn't hurting.
3. No cuts of any kind anywhere.
4. None. I use to brush in the past, but every time I did brush it just cause all my teeth, even those completed undamaged to hurt like I had just poured acid in my mouth, and my gums would bleed no matter how soft I brush. Flossing never helped, they'd just get stuck in between every time. And Listerine felt pointless.

All I know is that this tooth needs to be removed soon, I have tried calling dentists for help, but it feels like I'm getting dodged.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for getting back. The teeth which are painful and discolured need to undergo root canal therapy as it is involving the pulpal tissue followed by prosthetic crown for strength and aesthetics . Due to the fall the gums are inflammed as well, I recommend you to do the following

1. brush the teeth area and avoiding the gums for 1-2 weeks until it heals.
2. Use a soft bristle brush, you can use any available commercial paste
3. I recommend XXXXXXX gel for pain and numbness twice a day. It can also be applied overnight

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
