Question : I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH HYPOTHYROIDISM. I STARTED TAKING THE GENERIC MED BUT DIDN'T SEEM TO BE HELPING SO WAS PUT ON SYNTHROID. SHORTLY AFTER MY HAIR STARTED RAPIDLY THINNING. WOULD THIS BE CAUSED BY THE MED? IF SO, WILL MY HAIR COME BACK?

Hi,

Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.

Hair loss and thinning is commonly seen in
hypothyroidism. It will improve with thyroxine treatment. Rarely in women thyroxine supplementation can cause baldness due to increase in male hormones.

Hairloss in thyroid problems usually improve with time.
