What Causes Hair Thinning And Bald Patches?

I am using min top 10 for a while now , and have been using min top 5 % and 2% for years , starting with 2 % and gradually increasing to 5 and now to 10.
I am noticing increased hair thinning and bald patches for the first time now.
I wanted to know if i should go back to min top 5.
A higher percentage can be used as directed.

Hello,
Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum. I can understand your concern for hair fall.
I can get from your query that you have had used minoxidil 10 % and 5 %. Presently after using 2 % lotion you are experiencing more hair fall.
It is a common phenomenon that on reducing the percentage of minoxidil lotion one can feel more hair fall.
It is due to the fact that minoxidil works by increasing the blood supply. So if a higher percentage is used then there is more blood supply. Once the percentage is reduced abruptly then the blood vessels are not able to cope up with the same. The resultant effect is reduced nutrition to the hair roots and then thinning as well as hair fall.
You can go for 5% lotion under dermatological supervision. Do not try to abruptly change the concentration on hic her or lower side. I guide my patients to use both 2 % and 5 % at day and time time or on alternate days for few weeks before shifting to higher or lower percentage.
Do eat best of diet containing lot fruits and vegetables to improve the nutritional reserves.
I hope these informations will help you.

i am currently using min top 10.
I started using with minoxidil 2 % at least 8-10 years back , and then shifted to 5 % and now i am using 10 % for at least a year .
My question here is should i move back down to 5% or take a break from minoxidil since the hair loss/thinning is increasing .
Please advise
A multivitamin and iron tablet can be started.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome back and thanks for your swift response.
Minoxidil in the percentage of 10% is quite effective. In case if you are not getting system response by 10 % then it is better to give a break rather than shifting to 5%.
In your kind if cases I generally start either a multivitamin or an iron tablet. A lotion with latest biochemical such as Q sera can be used as an alternative to minoxidil.
I hope these informations will help you.

In general a gap of 8 weeks is quite fine. It is better to start with low percentage of 2% and then gradually go higher simultaneously softer few weeks.
The latest of the lotion guided in previous mail also helps also lot in this transition phase. You can take all the guidance by a treating dermatologist. Do not forget to take a nutritious diet with fruits and vegetables.
