What Causes Head Pain And Crawling Sensation On Head When Diagnosed With Shingles?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Sep 2015
Question: I have shingles on right side of my head and face. There is no rash. Head pain was first symptom. It is more or less under control now but itch, and creepy feeling on skin of head, forehead, and particularly eye brow and lid, off and on. This is day 16 since diagnosis. Is there anything to relieve the feeling? Should I be prepared for more symptoms? I had shingles on left side of face in 1976, ankd it got in my eye, with devastating results, so of course I can't help but worry about that happening again. By the way, I had shingles vaccine 4 years ago. When I was diagnosed this time I was given Famciclovir 500 mg, but was diagnosed first with muscle tightness and sent for physio, precious time was lost. I would appreciate any information. I am 89 years old, and otherwise pretty healthy. My email address may change any day, to YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
Get your eye checked.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Greetings from Dr Divakara P
Thanks for posting your query.

Well shingles is know to affects the nerves near by and what problems you are experiencing is due to nerve getting affected by the shingles .

This sensation can last from 1-4 weeks and if you have having significant trouble then I would recommend you get a prescription of Carbamazapine drug which shall give you good relief.

Apart from Carbamazapine I have got good relief in my patients with Gabapentin also . Kindly get yourself started on any of these.

But with the past history you have I would recommend you to get examined by an Opthalmologist to check whether the shingles are affecting your eye or not.

Hope you have been already started on Anti viral tablets like Famciclovir or Gamciclovir.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarification feel free to ask.

Regards.
