What Causes Headache And Nausea After An Insect Bite?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Oct 2016
Question: My husband was bitten/stung on the little finger of his right hand on Sunday. Initially, he thought it was a wasp sting. However, the pain was extreme and it's lasted two days so far. He started to not feel well later that evening. For the last two days he's complained of pain, headaches and nausea. He was outside on our dock when he was bitten/stung. We live on a lake in Alabama and there are TONS of spiders around. What do you think?

Brief Answer:
needs to see a doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
There are many insects and spiders that can cause bites with local irritation and inflammation.
However, the fact that he is not feeling well and has headaches and nausea means that he is having a whole body reaction to the venom from the bite.
It would be a good idea for him to be checked by a doctor to make sure that there is no infection going on and for advice about how to treat the headaches and nausea.
I hope he is feeling better very soon,
Dr Robinson
