What Causes Headaches Followed By Nausea?

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Sep 2014
Question: I occasionally suffer from an allergy attack. Usually just itchy eyes and then a worsening headache sometimes leading to nausea. This seems to coincide with moving to a new location, or heavy pollen days. The question I have relates to the proper medication to take. I do not like taking medication and do not want to take anything unnecessary, however when I get the headache I want to stop it from getting worse. I do NOT have the typical other symptoms such as runny nose sneezing or anything else so I find that most of the over the counter remedies include medicines for all of these, really I just need something for the headache and possibly itchy eyes, however I find that any of the over the counter eye drops take care of this. So therefore I just need something for the headache. Thank you for your recommendations.

As below:

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. The headache most commonly occurs when the nasal sinuses are blocked by the response to the allergy.

2. A trial with a combination of an anti-histamine, an anti-leukotriene (such as Allegra-M), a steroid nasal spray and regular steam inhalation should be taken for two weeks.

3. Once allergy develops, the body releases many substances. Only a few of these have an antidote. Hence it is important to prevent the allergic reaction. a couple of days before you move to a new location or expect a high pollen density, start similar medication under the supervision of your physician. Avoiding exposure to the allergens ids the best defense.

4. If your symptoms improve, continue with a tapering dose of these medications.

5. If the headaches persist, get a plain Sinus CT scan done.

6. You may follow up with the response to this medication and the investigation results ere for further treatment advice.

I hope that I have answered your queries. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
