What Causes Hearing Loss And Swishing Sound In The Ear?

default
Posted on Wed, 19 Oct 2016
Question: I'm a 66 year old woman. I'm beginning to experience some hearing loss. For several months I constantly hear a kind of swishing sound in my left ear. My audiologist told me there's nothing going on in the ear but suggested I mention it to my cardiologist next time I see him. Apparently I'm hearing my heart pumping blood. Haven't seen the cardiologist yet. Is this something urgent?

Brief Answer:
What is your blood pressure?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this query.

If it is all about the squishing sound, I will say it is not urgent. The only concern is this annoying sound that no one would really want to be getting all the times. If your blood pressure is less than 140/90mmHg, there is no reason to see a cardiologist urgently. Book a regular appointment and get this addressed then.

Besides, how annoying and bothersome is this sound? Let me know, please. However, it will most likely not be caused by a specific disease condition or ongoing disease process as your audiologist found no aberrant observations during examination and/or testing.

I hope this addresses your immediate concerns and is guiding enough. I hope this helps you as you loo for a definite solution to this. I wish you well and hope to hear back from you on what your take is.
