What Causes Hearing Loss In Left Ear, Gum Infection And Muscular Dystrophy?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 Jun 2015
Question: I am having hearing loss in my left ear only. There is no wax buildup and it feels like fluid in the middle ear. I noticed an increase in this over the last six months or so. I recently had severe gum infections and rotting teeth because I have a severe form of muscular dystrophy and had trouble keeping my mouth clean, so I had all of my teeth removed surgically. I spend a fair amount of time lying down in bed and have noticed my hearing gets better when I sit upright, and I can feel the fluid moving around. Could this be a result of the mouth issues? I was getting ear infections now and again but haven't had one in a long time. What could the cause of this fluid buildup be stemming from, and how can I get my hearing back?

Brief Answer:
You are most probably having eustachian tube block

Detailed Answer:
Hi ,
Thanks for query.

I have read your query & understand your concerns.

In my opinion , your are having left side eustachian tube blockage due to inflammation from throat issues.

If I am your treating doctor for this case , I would advice you
Steam inhalation twice daily ,
Saline nasal rinse thrice daily ,
antiinflammatory tablet like paracetamol &
antihistamine tablet at night .

Use antiseptic mouth wash regularly for throat issues.

You will get relief.

If relief is not upto satisfaction , you will need to consult ENT specialist for grommet insertion in ear . It will drain all fluid from ear & take care of future fluid build up.

Hope this information helpful to you .

Regards.
