Brief Answer:
please dont worry!!

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Yes there is hope!!

There are two types of deafness . one is due to neural changes and most of the time this cannot be treated and be managed with hearing aids.

The second one is due to conductive change and will generally improve once the cause is eliminated.

Putting tubes for middle ear disorder is the correct thing to do and these can sometimes leave a hole in the ear drum. Mostly these holes fill up over a period of 2-3 months. If the hole persisted as it seems like in your grandson, it can be due to many reasons including repeated infections.

It is very difficult to operate on children and the results are not good , that's why a hearing aid has been prescribed to your grandchild , so that for the time being he can hear with the help of it and once is is a bit older say around 10-12, he can be operated upon and the hole closed.

Please dont worry , he will do fine.

Take care
