Question: I am a 31 year old female. The last 3 months I have been having a multitude of problems. First started with heart flutters right before Christmas, which they said I had Premature Ventricular beats. So at that time I stopped drinking the soda which I had drank since I was 12 or so. My heart palpitations seemed to decrease. But my biggest issue was constipation that I have suffered from for years. I had a bad bought that put me in the hospital. I got regulated after that for a couple days but now a week later I have been having this severe burning in my large intestine/colon. I have a lot of Gas/Burping, Brain Fog everyday, diarrhea and a dull ache in my upper right abdomen. I had a Ultra sound done which came back normal. I have had CT scans which showed thickening of my bladder wall and thickening of my stomach wall. They put me on medication for the stomach ulcer which was causing pain on my left side under the breast bone and antibiotics for the UTI they thought I had, but days later the test came back saying I didn't have a UTI. All my blood tests come back normal, they took stool samples to see if I might have H.pylori or Guardia which I have not got the results for as of yet. I am waiting to have a colonoscopy done at this time. Does anyone have any idea what this is I am suffering from? I live in a small town and all the doctors are completely stumped. Mean while I am sick everyday. Please help.

Brief Answer:
The main problem is with the bowel movements.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the details that you have provided. The problem of flutters or premature ventricular beats is probably unrelated to your problem of constipation. I would not get too concerned about the flutters. But talking about the constipation, soda is not the solution that you should be looking for. Under normal situations, the peristaltic movements or bowel movements gradually propel the food material from the mouth to the stomach, forward to the small and large intestines before it is finally expelled as feces. If this movement is interrupted, the food material would not move forward properly. So, the stomach acids which are otherwise supposed to be cleared off normally, would get collected and cause a damage to the inner wall of the stomach and cause the pain on your left side under the breast bone or the dull ache in your upper right abdomen, as you have described. Furthermore, if the gases are not propelled forward, they would try to move in the reverse direction and cause belching. And finally, if the bowel movements are not proper, stool would get collected and you would get constipation. So basically it is one single problem that you have. Constipation and diarrhea may alternate and are basically part of the same problem.

The solution would be to regularize the bowel habits. Regular morning walk is essential. You have to take plenty of green leafy vegetables so that you have enough roughage to produce the stool. Take stool softeners like lactulose syrup. It is a prescription medication and you need to ask your doctor to write the medicine. You can also try isabgol husk or similar things to be taken at dinner. Do not take purgatives as they might complicate the matter further.

Be patient. Take the suggested measures and you should be better off. The problem would not resolve in a day and you would have to continue the measures for some time.

Hope that helps.
