What Causes Heavy Bleeding And Vaginal Lips Pain After First Intercourse?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Apr 2016
Question: My girlfriend and I lost our virginity. She felt huge amount of pain & bled a little.( we didnt continue to have sex, i pulled out after one stroke since she was in pain). Her legs & back were sore, the same pain that you get after gyming hard.
The next day i fingered her, she said that it was painful. Later her inner vaginal lips were in sharp pain on touch. I looked to be sure that there were no cuts/wounds, it was different, rough. She also bled a little and was painful( but lessser blood and pain than the first time) This happened when i penetrated her again the next day( just one stroke).

We used lube and condoms( flavoured, ribbed & dotted).
Is she ok?
Did her hymen broke? I couldnt look since her inner lips were in pain.
Its been 2 days and she still complains about the pinch type pain in her inner vaginal lips.
I am worried about her, will she be okay?
We couldn't consult a gynecologist due to personal reasons.

Brief Answer:
she will be fine, do not involve in sexual activities for 1 week

Detailed Answer:
Hello Young man,

I can understand your concern for your girlfriend.

In general most of the females during first intercourse pain is very common and more than 50% have bleeding due to breaking of hymen.
Degree of pain and bleeding varies according to toughness and size of hymen.
Gradually amount of pain and bleeding reduce and stop and almost no pain after 4 or 5 successful intercourse.

When you had first intercourse you pulled out after one stroke. Immediately on second day you fingered and pain-bleeding were there but lesser in severity. You pulled out after one stroke.

Due to increase in vaginal blood flow and inflammation after hymen breaking, her inner lips were swollen and in pain. This pain will reduce and stop in 2-3 days on its own. For a while she can take over the counter pain killer like brufen or diclofenac with food. She should maintain proper hygiene of private parts.
Avoid sexual activity for a week to get her settle.

When you attempt next time spare enough time in foreplay. This time will provide natural lubrication in her vagina and relaxation of her pelvic muscles. Then you can go for penetration with lubrication (I recommend KY jelly water based lubrication) and condom (I recommend non-dotted condom).
She may feel again if hymen is not completely broken. I also recommend that she should take pain killer before 2 hours of sex so she can enjoy without pain.
Gradually with experience you can enjoy without any discomfort.

- Also let me know her last three menstrual period dates so I can suggest safe period and you can try without condom also.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further after your response.

Dr.Chintan Solanki.

Thanks Doctor for the elaborated response.
please help us with the following:

1. Will the intensity of pain remain the same for successive attempts at intercourse?

2. What can we do to make sure that hymen breaks completely in the next try ?

3. Should we go with single stroke or multiple strokes. I mean if it pains is it ok to abandon it abruptly in a single stroke or continue to do it till we gat a hold of it?

Brief Answer:
pain will reduce and stop

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for follow up.

Ans 1: Pain will gradually reduce during successive attempts and stop maximum by 5th successful intercourse.

Ans 2 & 3: You should continue strokes even if pain is there. Gradually in the same intercourse pain will reduce and she can enjoy later on. Later on pain will be pleasure for her. You both should reach to orgasm. Do not worry if you cannot succeed in 3-4 attempts. She should try to tolerate pain. If pain is severe you can stop stroking. It depends on mutual understanding of both that when to stop. Taking pain killer medicines before intercourse will help. She also should be relax and do not be apprehensive about pain otherwise subconsciously her muscles will contract more and she will have more pain.

Feel free to discuss further.

Ok, there is one more thing that i want to ask.
I don't think she and I would be able to do it for 3 to 4 months. Since what we have is a long distance relationship. So, i wanted to ask in this time will the hymen repair itself in case it is partially broken? will she feel the same amount of pain(like the first time) when we do it the next time( which is about 3-4 months later).
Or, should she try to do it by herself to prevent any such scenario and prepare her body by herself.
I'm sorry if i sound too kiddish, but i am really concerned.

Brief Answer:
she can try on her own but it is not necessary

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You are not at all asking any kiddish question. It is better to clear all doubts.

No whatever hymen is broken it is permanent. It will not repair. But yes pain will go completely soon. She can try to explore her hymen with fingers, Initially with little finger and then with two fingers. This will help her to understand that what is happening during sex.
However it is not necessary that she should do this. After 3-4 months you can try again and proceed further as I mentioned in previous answer.

Do not hesitate to clear doubts if any.
