Posted on Wed, 6 May 2015
Question: Hi
Question is regarding my wife.
Yesterday my wife got her first menstrual bleeding after delivering a baby(6 months ago).
She is complaining of pain which is more than what she used to have earlier in her cycles and comparatively heavy bleeding.
Is this normal for first bleeding after delivery, if no what can be cause and medication for same?

Brief Answer:
not a reason to worry right now.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.

I can understand your concerns.

I do not think this pain and relatively more bleeding is a thing to worry at present as the body is adjusting to the hormonal changes after pregnancy.

If the heavy bleeding (roughly estimated as soaking through one or more sanitary pads or tampons every hour for several consecutive hours) persists for subsequent cycles, then you must consult her gynecologist to determine the cause.

For relief of pain, you can give her tablet Ibuprofen SOS.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to discuss further.

Thanks.
