default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: Hi ,
I have this weird phenomena like heavy breathing , sinking feeling of something is going to happen , stomach becomes sour sometimes and with any new sounds i get startled with increased pounding triggered by slight pain in the heart - like when you get scared.

This happens mostly when I am stressed or emotional break down. Sometimes it happens like that also , but those time are few.
I think this is psychological - anxiety traits , I am not sure though . So please suggest if the symptoms are normal

Brief Answer:
they refect anxiety problem; test BP, thyroid

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Your symptoms are suggestive of anxiety problem. They are very commonly seen in clinical setting. The reason may or may not be found in patients; like you said that you have these symptoms when you are under stress and sometimes without any stressful event.

You must try to get the treatment for the same as only deep breathing will not help and the symptoms may increase and may start to happen with very minor trigger or without trigger.

Dietary changes should also be made. Try to reduce or (better will be to ) stop tea coffee. Take enough water or other liquids (fruits, juices, curd, buttermilk etc.).
Take enough salad. Reduce oily food from your diet.

These symptoms can also be associated with thyroid problem and hypertension. It will be wise to screen for them by getting t3,t4, TSH and and ECG and Blood pressure reading.

Please meet a doctor and get proper interview done to clarify the situation.

Treatment, when done in time is very effective and drugs can be discintinued in most cases.

Doctor sometimes recommend therapy sessions (if they feel that they are needed). Try to do them if possible. Therapy sessions help a lot in early recovery and improved stress coping.

Hope reply is useful. Feel free to ask more questions for clarification.
Wish you good luck!
