Question: My husband has been doctoring for 9 months. He has polymyalgia rhumatica and takes 9 mg Prednisone. Has Exelon patch for memory. Other than that - vitamins. He has severe anemia and we have been to 1 doctor after another. Has had bone morrow biopsy and nothing, brain scan, CT scans of internal, nothing. Has severe anemia and two times after 4 times his hemoglobin is low so has Procrit shot. Has had 6 now. Asked nurse to find out why it is going up and down. No one is trying to find reason for heavy fatigue, itching, tremors, couple headaches, at times lightheaded. Seems like turn 80 and throw away item.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Anemia at this age can be due to hemorrhoids, malignancy, nutritional deficiency, vitamin deficiency or hemolytic anemia.
Bone marrow and blood investigations have been done to diagnose the cause.
Colonoscopy has been done too.
Hemorrhoids seems to be the apparent cause.
Upload all reports to give you a clear picture.
Fatigue, lightheadedness can be a part of anemia.
Itching needs to be addressed as it may he due to skin infection, drug reaction or jaundice.
Dementia is age related and the treatment is fine.
