What Causes Heavy, Irregular Spotting And Cramping?

Question : For the past 1-2 days I have had heavy irregular spotting and cramping, but my period is not supposed to start for another 8-9 days. The symptoms feel very similar to those I feel when on my actual period. I've never had spotting before and my period is normally extremely regular. My doctor doesn't have any appointments available until a week from today - should I go to urgent care or an ER for these symptoms, or is this something that is perfectly normal?
