What Causes High LDL And HDL Levels?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Nov 2015
Question: My AST is 466, ALT 210 and Bilirubin total is 1.3. What could be the cause. I am not a frequent/heavy drinker. I had one beer the night before I did my annual physical. I also have no symptoms of any kind. I am feeling excellent in my body. My LDL is high (144) and my HDL is 39. Could this be related. I am not on any medication.

Brief Answer:
Mildly elevated AST and ALT values have no clinical significance.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

A) Here your ALT (SGPT-210) and AST (SGOT-466) are mildly elevated (depending upon the lab variations) which would have no clinical significance in an otherwise healthy individual who does not have any clinical symptoms. I would not be personally worried about it.

SGPT and SGOT are highly sensitive liver function tests and they might get easily elevated even with fatty meal or mild alcohol intake like beer which contains 4 to 5% of alcohol.

So, do not worry about it.

Also there is no relation between your slightly high LDL 133 (normal value 100 to 130) and HDL-39 (normal value 35 to 55).

Overall, you do not need to bother about this lab parameters which do not have any clinical significance. You can go for repeat testing in the same laboratory with 8 hours fasting blood sample.

Hope this will clear doubt.
