Question : Early Sunday morning he awoke with a 101.6 fever and a headache. I gave him Motrin and he was fine again until last night when his fever spiked again with a headache. Again, gave him Motrin and he has been fine today. He has also had some congestion. Should I be concerned of anything other than a virus?

Brief Answer:
Seems like a common cold infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using HCM to post your health question.

It seems like what you are describing is most probably a viral infection.

Some important points to consider are:
-- It doesn't matter how high the fever is, but its important that is doesn't last for more then 3-5 days.
-- The general condition is very important. If your son is tired, not feeding, irritated, then that means that you should consider other things, other then a virus.
-- Some red flags are: shortness of breath, fever more then 5 days, bad general condition.

Hope this is helpful.
