What Causes High Heart Pulse Rate During The Day?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 Jun 2015
Question: why does my pulse stay so high..i exercise about thirty minutes every day..i try to eat the right foods..i do not consume caffeine but my pulse rate when i check it during the day is about 95-100..now i have noticed more skipped heartbeats..i have been checked out and they never find anything except mild mvp. my resting heart rate in the morning is about 65-70. how can i get my pulse down..i hate those skipped heartbeats that tend to happen more at higher pulse rates.what am i doing wrong ..what could cause them? when i take beta blockers to lower my heartrate then my blood pressure gets too low..i lose energy. thanks so much..do i need to intensify my workout? IS IT HARMFUL TO STAY AT AN ELEVATED RATE FOR SO LONG?

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Your Hr is at the upper limits of the norm during the day. Althought it's at the border, patient with HR around 100 bpm has an increased probability to experience skipped beats.

In most of the cases the skipped beats are caused from ectopic heart beats (PACs and PVCs), however further examinations are needed to confirm the diagnosis. If you were my patients I would recommend to do the following examinations:
- Blood work including Thyroid hormones
- ECG
- Cardiac ECHO
- Holter monitoring
- Stress test

Meanwhile i would suggest the following measures to lower the HR:
- Drink plenty of water
- continue with regularly exercising
- take magnesium and omega 3 supplements
- avoid stressful situation
- increase recreational activities (sport, dancing, yoga etc.)
- use chamomile tea
- use low dose of betablockers if the above measures are inefficient.
This will help to lower your HR and relieve your symptoms.

Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!

how much magnesium do i take? is it harmful to be beating so high for so long..i have always had a higher than normal hrate and now since menopause it appears to be getting worse.can menopause increase the hr and skipped beats. i want to avoid taking meds if i can..but if it will lengthen my life or create fewer heart problems in the future i will. sometimes my bp can be real low 100/54 so if i take the beta blocker will it decrease it more? Which beta blocker causes the least amount of side effects? will i be taking the beta blocker to relieve my symptoms to feel better or does it have real health benefits. thanks so much!!!

Hi back,

You shouldn't worry it's not harmful to have a HR around 95-100 bpm, because your HR is still within norm.

You should take 350 mg of magnesium per day in order to lower the HR.

The menopause and hormonal imbalance will cause an increased on HR and palpitations (skipped beats).

If you have to use meds I would recommend metoprolol at low doses because it has less side effects. Also it affects less BP compared with other beta blockers.

Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!
