What Causes High Pulse Rate After Taking Amlodipine?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Dec 2016
Question: My blood pressure and heart rate have been questionable for a while. I am 67, treated for PTSD, High bloodpressure, Diabetes type II, Reflux

BP - systolic: treated with amlodopene. Readings usually in the 140-150s prior to treatment. Haven't taken meds for some weeks now, though to get untreated readings. Readings are now in the 1teens. Avg around 117.

BP - dystolic: readings nearing 100

Pulse rate has been near 100 for several days at least. Have restarted meds 4 days ago. No seeming response. I lead a sedetary life. No chest pain. Some light headedness but a good part of that is my sinus and addiction to Afrin.

Brief Answer:
Hi welcome to HCM, You should stop Amlodipine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi welcome to HCM, You should stop Amlodipine. It is not for you since your pulse is fast (amlodipine can cause fast pulse) and anyway you do not require it now.
Fast pulse can be due to a condition called mitral valve prolapse that is not serious. A very low dose Beta blocker may benefit you. Regards
