What Causes High Pulse Rate?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Oct 2014
Question: I have high pulse rate of about 112-120 beats per minute. I'm always fatigued. My medications are:
Effexor XR 300mg QD
Geodon 40mg HS
Premarin 0.3mg QD
Zolpidem 10mg HS/PRN
Xanax 0.5 QD PRN
Naproxen 500mg BID PRN Pain
Simvastatin 20mg QD
ASA 81mg QD
I take supplements which are:
Calcium 600mg with D3 BID
Fish Oil with 360mg with Omega-3 BID
Vit.C 1000mg QD
MV/Multi mineral QD
Super B complex QD
I am 60 yrs. old & I smoke a pack/day. I am quite sedentary because I have limited energy. I was diagnosed with Epstein-Bar Virus years ago. I am over weight, packing 170 lbs. on a 5'5 frame.
My question is: are any of my meds causing my high pulse rate?
My B/P is normal 128/64. I've had 2 blackouts (fainting) in the past. One while standing & the other going from a squatting position to upright position, both landing me on the floor with injuries.
Should I be put on a beta adrenergic blocking agent?

Brief Answer:
May be due to Ziprasidoen

Detailed Answer:
Ziprasidone can cause.

Discuss with your treating psychiatrist.
Thank you for your query.

As you described a lot of medication from that only ziprasidone is the drug which may cause high heart rate and dizziness, but without your detail examination one cannot say it.

Also you are on Statin group so you might have altered lipid profile so it may also be the reason for high heart rate and dizziness.

Have you gone for any investigation till like thyroid profile, Echo, etc...?

Since when are you taking such medication particularly ziprasidone?

Since when are you having High heart rate?

No need to start any beta blocker at present, as if all this is due to medication than first of all we should decrease the dose or duration gradually and stop it then see whether you heart rate comes to normal or not.
If you are my patient I would like to stop ziprasidone and then I will see the effect than after I will decide whether to start beta blocker or not.
I am waiting your response.

Thank you
