What Causes High Triglyceride Count?

Posted on Mon, 6 Oct 2014
Question: I had visited the doctor, 6 weeks back regarding some breathing problem. My weight was 87 Kgs. The blood report said the Cholestrol and Uric acid is high. Cholestrol - 182, Triglycerides - 141, HDL Cholestrol - 46, LDL - 114, VLDL - 22. I was recommended some medicines and Roseday 10 which I am continuing daily for cholestrol. I was not given any medicine for Uric Acid which is 8. In between these 6 weeks, I had some back pain due to which I took some pain killers, and steroids( 6 tablets). Now after 6 weeks, I have lost 7 Kgs. My weight is 80 Kg. But surprisingly, the Triglycerides has increased to 172. Cholestrol - 159, HDL - 40, LDL - 93, VLDL - 26 and Uric Acid is still at 8.
Can you advice why the Triglycerides went high. My age is 37. Also, should I continue Roseday 10.
I am worried as high Triglycerides can lead to Heart diseases.

Brief Answer:
Need not worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

I have gone through your reports.

With the cholesterol levels you have I do not think it is right to put you on Roseday tablets. You may loose weight pathologically and can have undesired side-effects of the medication.

Stop the medication.

Your cholesterol levels are fine with a negligible derangement. TGDs reflect the recent food consumed. If you had fatty food the last meal before the test the TGDs may be more.

Uric acid too is not too high. Such a mild rise could be due to painkiller medications.

I see there is no need to be worried or take any medication for cholesterol of uric acid.

Thank you Doctor,

When you say "TGDs reflect the recent food consumed. If you had fatty food the last meal before the test the TGDs may be more."

Since the past 6 weeks I have been having very low calorie diet due to which probably I lost 7 kg weight. Even the day before I had the blood test, I had very low calorie food.

Anyways, but I forgot to mention is that since the day I started taking this medication ... after 2 - 3 days and till today .. I am having acute constipation ..before this my motion was very normal.

Can it be due to Roseday that this constipation has happened.

Also, during the back pain, the doctor had given me Vitamin D tablets, which I take regularly. Shall I stop that as well.

Can you suggest any medication to bring back the motions to normal ? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Continue Vit D

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

Stop Roseday and continue Vit D

Yes, constipation could be due to Roseday.

Need not worry about the cholesterol, TGD and uric acid levels they derangements are insignificant.

There would be no need for any medications. stopping Roseday would bring you back to normal.

Thank you once again Doctor.

Actually I work in a stressful environment, I work in night shifts. And also my father passed away this year, that has also disturbed me a lot.

Thank you for all the good advice. Can you suggest me a diet plan, which I can follow. I am a non-vegetarian. Can I eat fish, does that increase uric acid or weight.
