Brief Answer:
You might have to take for years if no side effect

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Triglycerides are a type of fat in the blood and by knowing the triglyceride level in blood, the risk of heart disease can be analysed.

In triglyceride levels following classification of risk has been made
Below 150 mg/dL is Normal
150-199 mg/dL is Borderline high
200-499 mg/dL is High
500 mg/dL and above is Very high

At 300 mg/ dl you have a high risk of heart disease if you do not take precautions. TONACT-TG tab contains atorvastatin, fenofibrate and will protect your heart by bringing down the triglyceride level and bad cholesterols.

It must be taken regularly under the supervision of a cardiologist and you might have to continue it for a long time. Though side effects are rarely seen, it is advised to report to your doctor if you have abnormal liver function tests, gall stones, pain in abdomen or pain in muscles and weakness. If this happens then your doctor will change the medication.

Many people take this medication without any side effects for years.

To control triglycerides I suggest you use olive oil in cooking at home and avoid fatty foods. You must follow up with your cardiologist regularly every 3 or 6 months and also please do an echocardiography if not done earlier.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
