What Causes Hip Pain That Radiates Into The Thighs?

Question: I have been having sharp pain in my left hip for about two weeks now. The pain can sometimes go into my thigh also. I had a minor car accident about a month ago. Could that be the reason for the pain?

Brief Answer: You may have lumbar disc prolapse. Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX Thanks for writing to HCM Hip pain and its radiation to thigh may be due to lumbar disc prolapse.It may be trauma related. Other causes should also be ruled out You need proper clinical examination and investigations.Investigations include routine hemogram,Random blood sugar(RBS),Liver function test(LFT),Renal function test(RFT),Lipid profile,Thyroid profile,Serum calcium and Vitamin D level,Urine RE/ME,Ultrasound of abdomen,X-ray L/S Spine (AP/Lateral view).MRI of L/S Spine should also be done to confirm disc prolapse. Further investigations can be done if needed. You should also modify your posture while sitting,standing and don't abruptly bend forward.Don't stand for prolong period.During standing position try to stand over one leg at a time so that entire body weight comes over one leg and other leg is in resting/folded position.
