Question : My daughter is 18 and away at college. She is experiencing hot flashes (sudden heat throughout body and sweating) and then gets very cold, and is very tired...hard to keep her eyes open. This has never happened before, so we are obviously worried.

Hello,

I understand your concern. Hot flashes at this age are usually related to an overactive thyroid, so I would get her to do a hormone levels test, followed by a thyroid ultrasound. If everything comes back normal, then I would check if your daughter is under lot of stress and anxiety. In this age group this is not unusual.
