Question : Hello, I am a 27 year old. For the past few months I have been having episodes of hot flashes, like once a week. I have been feeling very tired. No energy. I also notice that I have more bowel movements. Before I had like one a day and now I have like 2 or three. I am dizzy every day, not all the time but at least once or twice a day. I also have blurred vision. (I see a cornea specialist regularly because I had an opacity in the cornea and I suffer from very dry eyes the doctor believes the opacity was related to ocular herpes i had treatment and the opacity almost disappeared, but i am still getting checked out regularly) at night. I have been feeling like there is something in my throat. It doesn't heart but it does bother me. I feel like a mild burning of my throw and ears area. For the past few nights I have been sweating a lot at night but only on the right side of my neck and shoulder. I sleep facing up and I wake up with a mild head ache.. I have seen a doctor who checked for anemia, electrolytes and took blood to check for abnormalities in the intestines but everything came out normal. I need help. This is stressing me out.
Brief Answer:
Thyroid and phochromocytoma labs
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question. I have read your history and believe you need additional laboratory work. It would be helpful to know your thyroid status because hyperthyroidism can cause many of the symptoms that you described. There is also a fairly rare disease called pheochromocytoma that can sometimes cause symptoms like you describe. Additionally it would also be a good idea for you to get a skin test for tuberculosis and a chest x-ray. I hope you find the cause of your symptoms and treatment that will get you back to normal soon. regards, Dr. Robinson

Thank you Dr.
I will make an appointment to discuss my symptoms and get additional testing. Furthermore, I have one year old baby who was born with and Ileal atresia and a very small vsd. I did not know about these. I have been wondering if a condition I may have could have caused this. Just wondering if there is any specific condition or infections known of that may cause this for the baby. When I was pregnant with her I only remember two important events. First, I took medication for ocular herpes because my left cornea was severely swollen and caused an opacity "due to ocular herpes." The Drs. were not sure about the cause of the opacity. I suffer from very dry eyes, but only at night. I wake up with very dry eyes and sometimes with a head aches. I blame my blurriness to the dry eyes sometimes. The other event is being severely itchy around week 32-35 but the itchiness went away. I know this is a bit off the subject but the eye condition and the dizziness and blurred vision, head aches, dry eyes have been going on for a while. I would say two years. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
not related to birth defects
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your follow up. I have reviewed your notes and procedures. I can assure you that the ileal atresia and VSD were not caused by a medication for ocular herpes or the episode of itchiness. These types of defects are usually caused by genetic errors that unfortunately just happen sometimes. I do not think that anything you did caused these problems.
