Brief Answer:
possible allergy

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
The sense of smell is very important in taste. As we age the sense of smell decreases and this has a major impact on our ability to taste foods properly. Often as we age we need to use more spices to make food more palatable.
Having said that it is certainly true that if you have an allergy to mold, or anything else for that matter, you can have irritation and inflammation in the airways that can decrease your sense of smell.
If you think you have allergies see an allergist for testing and possible treatment. It is always a good idea to get mold out of your environment whenever possible. Hepa filters and cleaning moldy surfaces with a diluted clorox solution can help to get rid of mold.
Best to you,
Dr. Robinson
