Question: Hi Dr. Grief, My husband took one 5mg. tablet of Cialis a couple nights ago and he has not been feeling well since. He took his BP at Midnight and it read 188/112. I wanted to take him to ER but he wouldn't go. I took the BP again at 12:20am and it came down to 137/ 93. He had ringing in his ears and did not feel well all day today. He feels like he is calming now as he took 2 mg. of ativan about 12:30am and is resting in bed. Just took BP again and it is 135/85 with pulse at 68. What would you suggest we do? He really wants to wait til morning to go in if it goes up again or he still feels ill. After the initial high reading he took 50mg Metoprol which he takes every evening but hadn't yet taken it. He missed one dose of BP med. a day or two ago. Any suggestions?
Thank you,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Please wait till morning for further consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for choosing wwwhealthcaremagic
single tab of cialis 5 mg taken a few days back should not be causing trouble till now because, though half life is 17.5 hours, it should be washed away from blood by now, there by any side effect should disappear. The fact his blood pressure reading was high, which was reduced by Ativan tells me that anxiety may be the reason of his feeling unwell. Thehigh BP reading could be due to skipping the dose. so I suggest you to screen him through Hamilton's Anxiety Rating Scale and tell me how he scored. This can be downloaded free from net. You can surely wait till morning for further consultation Ringing in ears could be due to cialis. Normally it should be ok but if still present, you have to consult a specialist to know whether cialis is still present I blood and the effect on Vestibular nerve is more than usual.
