What Causes Inability To Be Honest To Oneself?

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Oct 2014
Question: I'm afraid to be honest with myself. I try to express my feelings with words (I use to write) but I'm afraid to admit anything about myself in an honest way especially on paper. My doctor put me on Zoloft during my divorce but I only get depressed occasionally, like anxiety attacks and so I take Klonopin but only when I feel like I'm falling apart. I also self medicate with coke and alcohol.

Need to cut down the self medication and..........

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

I read your query word by word and it was puzzling that why you post this query as there is no question asked.
I assume the two statements of your query needs attention.
Firstly you are not able to express yourself in words as you feel afraid of going something wrongs. I must admit that it can happen to anybody when someone is surrounded by wrong people. It is possible that you have fear of exploitation if you tell them honestly about you. When we are not in healthy relationship or we do not have secure base effect or we have no trust in another person we can express honestly.
This can be mastered by following ways
1. Identify the person in your environment who can be trusted. Talk to them at a length whatever comes to your mind. Ask the person to provide honest feed back. Try to accept what ever comes from the other end.
2. Try to understand your behavior. With introspection you will find one or another reason for getting afraid. If it is possible confront the abnormal ideas.
2. Visit a therapist for session. He will evaluate your fears and will guide you with appropriate kind of therapy.
I assure you that in expert hand the lot can be done and you are the best therapist for yourself.

Your second statement is related to medications. With available description I do not find anything wrong with this. Getting occasionally depressed and feeling aparted on multiple occasions is valid reason for anti depressant prescription. In case you have very limited number of these episodes you can talk to your doctor to remove the zoloft and to continue Klonopin on as needed basis. At the same time it is recommended to cut down the self medication. It is possible that with self medication you can control few of your symptoms but in long term it is going to do more harm than benefit.

I hope you got your answer. If you have more questions feel free to write back to me. I will be glad to assist you.
Thanks and regards
