Question: I am suffering with hypertension since 2 years. Using asomex(amlodipine) 2.5

Currently I am in Dubai i am not able to find Asomex. But I got Amvasc(amlodipine) 2.5
But my B.P is not controlled having 150/101 or 141/99
I went to doctor he conducted ECG and some test.
Conclusion:

Cardiovascular : No pulsations except the apex in the 5th space inside the mid clavicular line, heaving sustained apical impulse S1,S2, normal, apical S4 apical faint systolic murmur.
He prescribed :Preterax Arginine 10mg/2.5 mg
Please suggest is it fine to use.

Brief Answer:
Consult with cardiologist about interaction of pregabalin&preterax...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns.

1. You are reporting to be taking Pregabalin and Rapidus (diclophenac) for your nerves problems. Both of them can contribute in increase of blood pressure (bp).

2. Amsac contains the active ingredient Amlodipine which is also the active component in Asomex. They have the same effect.

3. Preterax Arginine is containing the active ingredients perindopril (ACE-inhibitor) and indapamide (diuretic).

Using preterax and pregabalin at the same time would increase chances for angioedema. Therefore, I highly suggest to tell to your cardiologist that you are also taking pregabalin before starting preterax.

Hope it was of help!

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

This is only description of cardiovascular examinations, which are within normal parameters. However if you were my patient I would done:
- Cardiac ECHO
- Holter and blood pressure monitoring
This will be of help in proper evaluation of cardiac status and to determine the best therapy for you.

If you were my patient I also would start you a combination of beta blockers and diuretics as first line for the treatment of hypertension.

Since this are medications you should discus with your doctor, and if he refuse to do so contact another cardiologist.

Wish you health!
Dr. Shehu
