Question: My son is 8 months+ and had fever of 101.6 noted in underarm at around 3:30 this morning. He is not crying but his full body was heating very much. I had given him Dolo drop1 ml once at 3:30. Please advise as temperature being 102.5 seems very high to me

Brief Answer:
Do sponging

Detailed Answer:
Hi

In this condition I suggest you to do sponging continuously. Please tell me the weight of the baby so that I can calculate the appropriate dose of paracetamol for him.
The average weight of 8 months old baby is around 7-8 kg and for this weight the 1 ml of paracetamol(100 mg) is appropriate.
If fever persists even after doing sponging better to take him to the emergency.
I won't suggest to give other medicines for fever like ibuprofen or mefenemic acid unless the dengue infection is ruled as dengue is endemic now a days as these medicines can further increase the complication.

Please let me know if you need any more help.
Regards

Brief Answer:
No need of sponging if there is no fever

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Its good to know that fever has came down. No need of sponging now. Observe for fever and if it is there please repeat the same dose. Paracetamol can be given at an interval of 6-8 hours depending on the frequency of fever. In most of the cases fever in this age is due to some viral infection and only symptomatic treatment is needed.
If fever recurs or you notice other significant complaints, please consult a pediatrician for evaluation.
Regards

Brief Answer:
Give paracetamol only if needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for follow up

The pattern of fever suggests it to be of viral origin.
In most of the viral infection fever starts declining after 48-72 hours and fever medication that is paracetamol is need to be given only if there is rising temperature.
So please monitor the temperature and give paracetamol only if needed.

Regards
