Question: I am noticing that my 4.5 months old baby girl has started teething. I am seeing the front 2 bottom teeth coming up. She is getting cranky and fussy and not able to feed properly. She is chewing her fingers again and again. How can I make her feel better?

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Getting cranky or fussy and chewing objects are common while teething. To make teething easier and less painful there are several measures.
The most important thing is to maintain proper hygiene as during this stage babies start chewing their fingers, toys or objects they hold of.
You can alleviate the uneasiness by massaging the baby's gum with cold gauge or own clean fingers. You can also apply some pain relieving oral gel(Zytee) on the gum where teeth is erupting 3-4 times a day 10-15 minutes before feed.
Give some healthy slightly hard food to your baby for chewing like breadstick, apple, cucumber or carrot(Be careful while you are giving these things as there is a risk of chocking by small pieces while chewing).
As there is excessive saliva production during teething and when it drool outside it may cause some skin rashes after drying and crusting.Keep fresh clean moist cloth to wipe off the saliva.
Even if after applying all these measures baby is irritable and you think that teething is troublesome you can give some safe analgesic like paracetamol drops.
I hope this answers your query well.
I shall be glad to answer if you have any more doubts.
Regards
