What Causes Increased Hair Fall In Children?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jan 2016
Question: My 8 year old granddaughter's hair is falling out. She is thin/slim, always hungry, very active and has brittle hair unlike her sisters that have long, smooth healthy hair. As a baby she would wake up during the night to eat and would stay in her high-chair eating and eating.

Brief Answer:
Check her for diabetes and thyroid dysfunction

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM

I understand your concerns but don't worry. I would recommend you to check her for diabetes mellitus and thyroid dysfunction. Both these conditions can lead to polyphagia along with poor growth and hair fall.

If normal then consider it as a normal phase of growth and ensure good protein and carbohydrate rich diet along with plenty of fluids. Maintain proper dietary habits.

You may upload the laboratory work up for diabetes (FBS, PP2BS) and thyroid dysfunction (thyroid function test) for my reference.

Hopefully it will be of help.
Take care
