What Causes Increased Heart Rate And Shortness Of Breath?
Question: Hi, I am 26 years old, male, 6' 3" and weigh 185 pounds. Lately I have been getting random fast heart rates that last a good 4 to 5 minutes then go away and it's not after any activity either. Sometimes I feel like I am getting shortness of breath during the fast heart rates and have to sit down for a bit just to calm myself down. Is this a serious problem I may have with my heart? Should I seek medical attention right away? Please help! I have slowed down on caffeine intakes and been drinking water more often as well to help avoid these problems.

Hi,
I understand your concern.
As per your history, you probably need to get a screening EP study and 24hr holter ECG to document any aberrant conduction pathways inside your heart .
Since you have associated shortness of breath,I advise you get the above tests at the earliest.
Further management is based on the test results.
Absteen completely from smoking ,coffee and alcohol intake.
Posr your further queries if any.
