What Causes Increased Regularity Of Bowel Movement While On Ciprofloxacin For Prostatitis?

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Dec 2015
Question: HI I am 25 years old, have had treatment for prostatitis with Ciprofloxacin 500mg, 2 to 3 within times the year.

I have usually felt fine, but recently have been letting out 3xa day.twice when I am at work, may I be thinking too much about it?

I feel no pain in the stomach at all or any changes in colour etc.

I was wondering why the stools have increasing recently, may have antibiotica destroyed good bacteria in the gut.

Or is it fairly healthy to use the toilet 3 x a day.

What foods do you recommend to top up good bacteria?

I meant stool how many times is healthy?

I have also noticed I am letting out more gas recently aswell

Now like I am at work am not letting out any feeling to stool think It may be anxiety but am sure you will let me know.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking on HCM!
I read carefully all your concerns and I understood your query.

You are experiencing a more frequent bowel movement ( 3 per day) and you have used ciprofloxacin for proctitis. The normal bowel movement is one time per 24 h, but it is different in different individuals.
So, since 3 times per day is not usually for you than it may be related with :
- dis bacteriosis(destroys gut good bacteria) after antibiotic use
- Candida overgrowth after antibiotic use

After you have excluded these causes than I can say that anxiety is the cause of your symptoms.

If you were my patient I would recommend as follows :
- use probiotics up to ten days
- avoid fatty, spicy and sugar foods
- use yogurt,rice eggs
- avoid milk
- use vegetables and fresh fruits

If you have not improvement after a couple of days than you should do fecal test for Candida overgrowth and start anti-fungal treatment.

Hope it was helpful to you!

Do you rule out IBS?

Can antibiotics cause IBS?

I am not feeling any pain in stomach or suffering from diarrhea but will be trying your diet recommendations.

Thank you please answer my final question madam and have a great day.

Hi back

Antibiotics can trigger the symptoms of IBS.

Usually in my clinical practice in such situation firstly I try to rule out organic issues. If there is no organic issues than IBS and anxiety is the most probable cause.

Hope it was helpful to you!
