Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

Considering your age ,a progressive short of breath needs a complete evaluation.
There are many possible causes for chronic dyspnea (short of breath over 1 month). Most common causes include:
-Anemia
-Hypothyroidism
-Heart conditions ( Congestive Heart Failure , Myocardial Ischemia ,Structural Heart disease)
-Lung conditions (Pulmonary Hypertension , Asthma , Pulmonary embolism etc).
-If you feel short of breath mostly at night or when in lying position ,then GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease ) should be taken in consideration.

As you can see ,there are many conditions that can present with chronic short of breath.
A detailed medical history and physical examination play a crucial role in the diagnosis.

Your may need to do some tests and imaging studies first including:
-Complete blood count (to exclude anemia)
-Metabolic panel
-Thyroid function tests
-Electrocardiogram
-Chest X-ray
Depending on the result of these tests ,your doctor will decide if you additional studies like Exercise Stress Test ,Holter Monitor ,Echocardiogram .

Hope I have answered your query.Let me know if you have any other question or doubt to clarify.I will be happy to assist you further.
I wish you good luck with your investigations and hope it is nothing serious.
