What Causes Infections After Platelet Donations?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Jan 2015
Question: Hi. I donated platelets two months back. After 10 days I got Typhoid and admitted in the hospital. I recovered after one week. 15 days later I got acute parotidis infection. I consulted ENT specialist and used medicine. One week later again I got fever with cold chills. Now I am feeling better after consulting doctor and using medicine. I have been fighting with several illnesses immediately after platelet donation, does it have anything to do with it. What should I do to get back to my previous health. Please guide me.

Brief Answer:
It's not due to Platelet donation.

Detailed Answer:

First of all thanks for choosing Healthcaremagic for posting your query.

First of all know that all your problems have no connection with your Platelet donation. Either it is due to coincidence or you might have not got a proper treatment when you got Typhoid .

If Typhoid or other infection is not treated properly then it will get partially resolved but it shall cause fever again after few days or weeks.

The same I feel for your Parotitis , there is good possibility that you might have not been treated properly or adequately . The duration of treatment for TYphoid or Parotitis has to be extended sometimes to 2 weeks for complete resolution of infection and if in case a shorter course is given complete cure may not happen.

Anyhow presently you are feeling better , that's a good thing and sign of recovery.

I advise you to drink hot water, eat home made food , avoid oily and non veg food for 2-3 weeks. You can use Chavanprash which contains lot of Antioxidant substance that helps in boosting up your immunity.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask .

Regards.
