Other prophylactic medicines should be tried.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Abdulburaale,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

I understand your concerns well and shall offer my best advise to address them.
In view of the clinical history, there appears to be no confusion about your diagnosis to be 'Migraine'.Amitriptyline despite being an excellent antimigraine prophylactic drug, can cause troublesome sedation in some.No wonder that you had to to quit the drug because of its sedative effect. However, its worth mentioning that amitriptyline is not the only prophylactic drug for migraine. We have other effective medicines out there with the likes of- Propranolol,Flunarizine,Valproate and Topiramate. You should discuss with your treating doctors to put you on one of these, keeping in view your patient profile.

Further, there are medicines for acute attacks of migraine as well which are mainly-Triptans,Ergots and NSAIDS.These medicines are to be taken on sos(at the time of symptoms) basis.

I suggest you to discuss and make out a therapeutic plan with your treating doctor.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

Regards
Dr.Ajay Panwar,
MD.DM(Neurology)
