Hello dear, thanks for trusting health care magic.
You have a typical symptom of decreased endometrial thickness that is why you are getting this intermenstrual spotting.
It is not tolerance to birth control rather just need for higher estrogen content in pill.
From next cycle onwards start a pill pack with estrogen content of 50ug easily available as Ovral-G.
But in case same pattern still continues then get an ultrasound to see for ovarian size and endometrial thickness.
All the best.

Thank you for your response. Why do i need more estrogen? Ive been on this same birth control for 5 years now and havent had any issues. I just had my normal period last week so i didnt think it could have anything to do with pregnancy .

Detailed Answer:
This is another point in favour of it that this suppression of endogenous estrogen is more common in long term pill users.
But don't worry if is going to be alright in just one or two cycles.
Pregnancy if at all you are very anxious you can do a urine pregnancy test bit it is highly unlikely that you are pregnant.
Take care.

Detailed Answer:
No there is no such thing like decreased effectiveness after long term use.
Rather as a matter of fact as the usage months increase the level of protection increases.
