What Causes Intermittent Cold, Stomach Ache, Lightheadedness And Dizziness?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 Dec 2014
Question: I have been sick with a cold off and on now since the beginning of September. I have tried changing my diet and avoid alcohol. I take cold meds, airborne dual action immune support supplements as well as my prescription medications. I am wondering if there is anything else I should be trying to get better. My stomach still hurts some mornings. I get light headed and dizzy and I am tired a lot. I am not sure if that is due to the medication or if it is a separate problem.

Brief Answer:
Related to allergic problems

Detailed Answer:
HI.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.

I would like to know a bit details :
Do you have any of the following: Sneezing / Watery discharge from nose / nasal blockage ?
Is this a daily problem or sometimes in a week?
Is Symbicort helping you perfectly?
I hope the lemon in juice is not causing any problems as is observed in some patients- you can avoid lemon for a few days to see the results.

You can try the following :
Oral antihistamine tablet.
Steroidal nasal spray.
Steam inhalation of plain water.
Oral steroids in tapering dosage if blood sugar is normal.
Blood, urine tests and CT scan of the Sinuses to help diagnosis and to plan further treatment.
To continue your present treatment.

Light headedness and dizziness and tiredness can be due to allergic problem itself. Even though you may be getting the relief, it may not be a complete relief
and a partial problem also can cause the similar problems. The recovery from these problems with additional medicines can give us a clue about probable cause and its treatment.

Please remember a simple dictum in allergy: Anything under the sun including the sun can cause allergy. This means it is always a keen observation made by you and / or your family members can help to identify the cause and avoid it altogether. This is part of the treatment.

I hope this answer helps you to get an additional idea to find a cause and get an appropriate treatment most suitable for you; please feel free to ask for more if you need to.

I do have sneezing but no discharge or nasal blockage. I do have very bad seasonal allergies to which I was on injections for. I got a needle every week for 1 year but due to excessive traveling I had to find something that was easier for me and my schedule so my allergist/lung specialist prescribed oral air which I begin to take in January 2015. Since taking the injections I have had minimal allergy occurrence. I do not use the lemon juice all the time just when my cold symptoms reappear and stop drinking once the symptoms have gone. The problem is the cold symptoms seem to re occur every couple of weeks. I am not sick on a daily case but once I get the cold symptoms they last for a week or so then go away for a week or so.

The symbicort does help my breathing. Before I began taking it I had a very hard time doing simple tasks such as walking or exercising and now I can do both without losing my breath and having to take a rest. I do not need a rescue inhaler at all.

I am from a cold climate and I am wintering in Florida so could the climate change be affecting my cold? Also before heading to Florida I was under a lot of stress so could this be causing my stomach pains??

Brief Answer:
Climate change can affect / stress adds on all the problems

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback and clear history.

Sneezing alone without any nasal discharge and blockage indicate purely allergic problem. This is seasonal allergy as you have rightly noted and can be enhanced by the climate change as the nasal mucosal lining becomes sensitive to the allergens.
These changes can be enhanced by the stress, anxiety and tensions giving you more sneezing, asthma problem and the stomach pains.
Control of stress, if possible can reduce the dosage of the oral and topical medicines needed.

It is good to know that the Symbicort is suitable and effective in your case.
May I please know which injection were you given?

The interval of symptom-free period indicates that the nasal sprays of once a day steroids will be the most suitable for you.

Additional Multivitamins does help to develop resistance of the body towards allergens as Vitamin A and D does help to develop a good resistance of the respiratory mucosal lining.

Stress: to say again can increase all the problem you have including the stomach pains.
