What Causes Intermittent Fever While Having G6PD Deficiency?

Question: Hi Dr.

I have a 3 years old son and he is G6pd deficient . What we have observed in last 10 days is that he gets fever up-to 103 ,takes calpol and then finds relief for 2 days and then again gets fever.

Hi,

Thanks for your query.

I would like you to record the temperature for the next 4 days. The temperature and the timing.

Also, look for any other symptoms like running nose,cough, loose stools, blood in stools or pain during urination. This may help us to locate if there is a any locus of infection.

Continue giving Calpol for the fever once its recorded. Let the strength of Calpol be not more than 125mg per dose and not more than 2 doses per day. Stop the medication if you notice any change in the urine colour. Try tepid sponging in high temperatures.
