What Causes Intermittent Itching In The Right Palm Along With Tingling Sensation?

default
Posted on Sat, 21 Jan 2023
Question: My puzzling symptom(s):
Off and on for approx. the last week or so, my right hand palm will itch and sometimes extend to my little finger and the next one to it.
Just yesterday, the itch was accompanied by a very slight tingling sensation. These symptoms affect only my right hand. I finally took one benadryl pill and it helped. I always have very good results for blood tests and have no heart issues. One week ago, I was tested for blood and heart in preparation for cataract surgery, and the results were "normal."
The only health issues I have ever had are seasonal allergies.

Brief Answer:
Probably due to Cubital tunnel syndrome

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I think this situation has to do with ulnar nerve entrapment or cubital tunnel syndrome.

Sometimes it happens with no reason or may be due to bone spurs, arthritis, or other diseases causing the bone to compress the nerve.
Your doctor may take x-rays of your elbow or wrist to look for bone spurs, arthritis cysts or structures that compress the ulnar nerve.

Meanwhile:
* Avoid keeping your arm bent for long periods of time.
* Avoid putting pressure on the inside of your arm.
* Can use Ibuprofen if the pain starts.
* If the symptoms worsen or continue to meet an orthopedist for the further evaluation

Hope I have answered the question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Is cubital tunnel syndrome related to, or similar to, carpal tunnel syndrome? I have not had issues with my wrist.

Brief Answer:
Most commonly it is compressed in the elbow.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

It is somewhat similar to carpal tunnel syndrome but affects a different nerve. The compression may be through the nerve way from neck to wrist most commonly to the elbow so symptoms vary in presentations.
