Question: I have been experiencing extreme numbness in both my hands, it comes and goes during the day but I mostly experience it at night while I'm sleeping ( it wakes me up ), I have also started experiencing a painful being (pricked with needles ) when I go into the cold or run cold water over my hands....Its is almost impossible to make a fist when my hands are like this...sometimes the pain shoots through my wrist all the way up to just past my elbow

Brief Answer:
Peripheral neuropathy

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

What you are experiencing is pain arising from the smaller nerves that supply your hands known as peripheral nerves
Here is how you should go about it

1. Peripheral neuropathy requires immediate evaluation and treatment by a neurologist
2. The most common reason for peripheral neuropathy is diabetes and vit b12 deficiency
3. You will need to undergo routine blood tests and also test for vit b12 as soon as possible
4. I recommend that you get tested before treatment with Vit b12 supplements and medicines that smoothen the nerves like tab pregabalin
5. For now you can use Tab tylenol for the pain

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me. Please dont ignore this any further meet a neurologist as soon as possible

Regards
