What Causes Intermittent Pain In The Right Pelvic Region?

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Aug 2017
Question: Just curious what can cause sudden front right pelvic/groin pain that comes and goes (30 yr old male)?

There was no trauma.
The pain is an dull ache that comes and goes, nothing specific that i can see aggitates it. Pain came on just today.
I will say that when emptying my bowels, if pressure is applied, i can notice it a little more. I dont see any obvious blood in my urine or stool. Wondering if its something serious or not.

Brief Answer:
Most likely sprain in ligament in pelvic area.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
I am a Gastroenterologist and would be answering your query.

As per the picture attached by you the area you are indicating is called pelvic floor.
Some times due to overstraining or due to weakness of muscles the abdominal contents pass from abdomen into scrotum or femoral region leading to condition called hernia But as problem is acute in onset it can be due to sprain in particular ligament or muscle.
Initially i won't suggest you to go for any investigation rather i would advice you to take Tylenol(otc) for 3 days twice daily. If there is a sprain or inflammation it would respond immediately to tylenol.
Use a ointment containing diclofenac locally over the area.
Follow up after 3 days.

Alright. I hope so. This doesnt sound like a UTI, prostatitis, or a lower colon/rectal issue? The sharpness and frequencyis the reason why i ask.

Detailed Answer:
Hello there,
Classical pain inUTI and prostatitis is usually constant in nature and is not off and on(comes and go).
Uti usually presents with flank pain.
However to be on safe side a urine microscopy test can be done to see if there is a bacterial infection.
Increase in pain while straining again points toward sprain.
However initially most likely its sprain.

Have you tried tylenol?

Thanks.

Gotcha. There has been a pressure development in front of the general pelviv area (noticed today; see orher picture), this all going on with the RUQ pain that ive been having for over a year now. Could this sharp localized pain and new central pressure be due to a strain as well or could it be a hernia or gastric issue?

Hi there.
I have seen the picture attached by you.
I would suggest you to go for a urine micriscopy test and an ultrasound abdomen.
See all these problem have symptoms overlaping each other so just on the basis of history its very difficult to differentiate things.
Follow up with reports.

Regards!
