Question: My wife feels occassional sharp pain in c-section area after even 5 months of it. The pain is in the c-section area and mostly upper area of operation. The last time I consulted with our Dr. Who did the operation said the stich was fine from out side, ofcourse inside will take time to heal. But now as we are out of station we could not able to go to her. Pls let me know Why is it happening? Any precautions i need to take. Pls suggest.

Brief Answer:
Get a check up done ; other pointers outlined.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
The C section scar heals well within 3 months.
Patients are even allowed to exercise after 3 months of the surgery are completed.
As such, occasional pain would be felt in the area, because of the tissues inside which have been handled.
This can be prevented by the following measures =
1. First please get a complete internal check up and an ultrasound scan done to rule out any problems in the uterus and surrounding areas. Since you are out of station, get this done preferably with the doctor who operated as soon as you can contact her personally .
2. Wear an abdominal belt ( binder ).
3. Take calcium and vitamin D supplements daily.
4. Get gentle back massage / physiotheraphy done.
5. Avoid getting up with a jerk, avoid lifting very heavy weights or exercising / working in strenuous positions.
6. Take simple , bland, home made food. Avoid spices, chillies, oil, ghee and outside food.
7. Take lots of water - atleast 5 litres per day.
8. Try and reduce body fat in the area by gentle yoga / stretching / regular massage and diet control.
9. Take a hot water bottle to bed applying it over the painful area when she goes to bed.
10. Food such as methi, palak, heeng ( asafoetida ) , ginger , beetroot, oranges - are beneficial for pain relief and overall good health.
This should help you to tackle the occasional pain and discomfort.
All the best
