Brief Answer:
Get a ultrasound abdomen done

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist.
Metformin can sometimes cause gastric upset including nausea. Stabbing type pain with vomiting can be because of gastritis.
I recommend you to just get a ultrasound abdomen & a 2D Echo done to rule out abnormality if any.
In the meanwhile you can take a combination of Pantoprazole/Rabeprazole & domperidone twice daily before breakfast & dinner.
Wishing you a good health.
